Giant Waves Hit Southern California in Wake of Hurricane Marie

Waves up to 20 feed (6 m) high crashed along the Southern California coast on 27th August 2014 – the largest waves seen in this part since 1997.Crowds gathered at LA beaches to ride the potentially dangerous surf.

The large swells were generated by Hurricane Marie and caused coastal flooding in Seal Beach, Orange County inundating 30 homes.

Marie has now been downgraded as is moves north and veering away from the west coast, but the unusually large surf is expected to last until 29th August.
