Heavy rainfall and flooding has inundated parts of Tanzania, Malawi and northern Mozambique. Some regions received a month’s worth of rain in 24 hours, with flash flooding destroying roads and bridges. In Malawi, nearly 200 people have been killed, with many more missing, and an estimated 110,000 people have been displaced by the flooding. The heavy rain has also damaged crops, including the staple crop maize, 3.9 million tonnes of which was harvested in 2014.

Malawi's Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has warned of continued heavy rainfall and flash floods for the next few weeks.
