Insurance claims for flooding damage caused by Storms Desmond, Eva, and Frank this winter is likely to reach £1.3 billion, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
So far, £24 million has been issued in emergency payments, with £9 million going to homes, and £15 million allocated to businesses. The government stated that 16,000 homes were affected by flooding, with 3,000 families currently living in alternative accommodation. Over the last month, there have been approximately 15,000 claims from homes and businesses relating to property damage, with the average claim around £50,000. In contrast to the 2013/2014 storms, the average claim was £31,000, but the current figure is still far from the £3 billion claimed in 2007 for storm damage.
