First TV Weatherman

Last Saturday (11 January) the BBC celebrated the 60th anniversary of its first ever televised weather forecast. It was the meteorologist George Cowling, equipped only with pencils, a rubber and a weather chart, who brought the UK its first five minute live broadcast. Cowling had a very formal approach, in line with trends at the time but he set a precedent by appearing on screen several months before the first newsreader.
